Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

Vitamin B5 Pantothenic acid is a member of the B vitamin family. It can be found in all living cells and almost all foods. Appropriately, its name comes from the Greek word pantos, meaning "everywhere."

Although deficiencies in humans are rare, Vitamin B5 supplementation can be beneficial to athletes by improving oxygen utilization efficiency and reducing lactic acid accumulation which is said to occur due to it's ability to release energy from sugars and other nutrients. It is also popular with those suffering symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis as it is known to reduce morning stiffness and is said to have general positive effects for the skin and hair.

Another popular use for Vitamin B5 is for those suffering from acne, where it is said to reduce pore size and resolve acne in many cases.

Dosage

The dosage of Vitamin B5 depends largely on the application, in athletic circles a dose of 250mg to 500mg would be typical, for those suffering from arthritis a 2g dose may be sufficient, however when used for the alleviation of acne up to 10g a day is commonly used. It should be noted that with doses above 2g a day, diarrhea side effects are not uncommon.s the body makes more growth hormone during sleep.
