As friends of friends see the infectious enthusiasm and achievements by members of the GOG more are turning up to train and be part of this group of people turning dreams into reality.
Swinburne University Basketball club
We are a University Club that formed in late 2013. The idea came alive when we wanted to attempt to expand the sport of basketball across Swinburne University after an exceptional performance at the 2013 Southern University Games despite coming up short. Being a technology University, sport isn’t exactly the first thing one would think of but just from the small group of 20 we felt there would be more basketballers around the Uni.
Cross Fit Base Weightlifting
Under the guidance of former CrossFit Regionals competitor and now Commonwealth Games weightlifting athlete Kylie Lindbeck, CrossFit Base’s weightlifting team has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the ACT, nationally and internationally. For a relatively small and fairly new team, there is no denying the success of this club. In the past 12 months alone Kylie has represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, World champs in Almaty and awarded as the national champion in her weight category.
Sydney Rangers Football Club
Sydney Rangers Football Club is Australia’s first and largest gay men’s soccer club. Founded in 1997, the Rangers are a group dedicated to building a competitive, social and diverse club which welcomes players of all sexual orientations and from all levels of playing experience. The Rangers, under the umbrella of Balmain DFC, compete in the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association, and compete in various domestic and international competitions throughout the year.
Maroondah Griffins Rugby
Last year was the first year we had a coach with players standing in as coaches the past 3 or 4 years. With the help of a good coach we took the flag last year in a nail biting final against bendigo. In which we won in the last minutes. This year we move up a division, coach lance is still on board as we look set to move forward as a club and grow as a senior team with enough talent to boot, excess passion from both coach and players, some young talent coming through and us oldies playing our part as well. Our plan is to be serious contenders as the new comers to the division.
