Why We Should Only Drink Spring Water

I’m going to be as straight to the point as I can. I don’t drink tap water unless I absolutely have to and I never touch purified or distilled bottled water.

My water of choice is spring water. Yes bottled spring water and not just any type. If I could afford it I’d only drink Evian.

Why? Am I mad? These are probably the two things crossing your mind at the moment.

Put simply, purified water is dead water.

Our body requires minerals to function on a cellular level. Distilled water is great at absorbing these minerals. When it’s in contact with the air it absorbs carbon dioxide easily, making it acidic. Put this water in your body and it easily absorbs minerals, the very minerals we need for our bodies to function at a cellular level.

The more mineral loss, the greater the risk of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and a long list of degenerative diseases, generally associated with premature ageing.

Fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium. Deficiencies of these electrolytes and minerals can cause heart beat irregularities, high blood pressure and lead to increased risk of heart attack.  Studies show cooking foods, particularly vegetables, in distilled water draws the minerals out of them and lowers their nutritional value.

All natural fresh water contains traces of natural minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium, which is what our body was designed to run on. There are several research reports and books that stress the more recent opinion that long term consumption of de-mineralised (distilled or purified) water can in fact be dangerous.

Two very negative things happen when we consume water, which has been stripped of its natural minerals. 

Firstly, research shows that because de-mineralised water contains more hydrogen it is in fact an acid with a pH level as low as 5.5 at times.  Any time we consume an acidic substance our body will pull minerals from our teeth and bones to produce bicarbonate in order to neutralise the acid.

Secondly, it has been proven that when our body fluids become more acidic than alkaline, the production of free radicals increases. This can lead to an increased risk of cancer. Many studies suggest that cancer cells can only grow in an acidic environment.  This theory seems to be supported by the fact that the areas across the world where there is the highest rate of longevity and lowest rate of disease, also have the most alkaline water sources. Alkaline water has the highest mineral content.

If you’re in comp prep mode, why would you want to put any more stress on your body than you already are?  

While you can get purified water that has had minerals added back in, it comes with the huge added risk of increasing the incidence of kidney stones, as the minerals are added in their metallic inorganic form instead of their organic colloidal form..

An alternative is to go to a health food store or good chemist and get yourself Colloidal Minerals to add to your tap water. You only need to take about five to ten millilitres a day in total to ensure that your water is not robbing you of vital minerals.

All I can say is I can definitely feel that if I drink only tap water, I’m more easily dehydrated than when I drink good quality spring water. Try it yourself!

Also in my opinion, if you’re not drinking at least three litres of water a day, you’re not getting enough.
