En Garde! Fencing is a group of three combat sports disciplines, the Foil, the Épée and the Sabre. Points are won through the weapon contacting the opposing player.

Fencing matches are quick, typically only lasting 9 minutes (3 rounds of 3 minutes) with an additional “sudden death” minute in the event of a tie.

It is important to be alert and focus the whole time for the best chance at success. Fencing training is often split into three main skills: blade work, footwork and tactics.

Practice is mainly skills specific however, cardiovascular training, balance and agility are also needed to help complement the execution of the skill training.
